Renewable Energy Options for Businesses
The transition to a lower-carbon future requires sustainable energy solutions tailored to suit your business. At Shell Energy, we help businesses avoid, reduce and compensate emissions through a range of business energy solutions. We understand that striking the balance between powering business operations and achieving your decarbonisation goals can be a challenge. That's why we offer a variety of renewable energy options, backed by UK-certified renewable certificates of origin.
Renewable business electricity: Our renewable electricity options are all backed by UK-certified Renewable Energy Guarantee of Origin (REGO) certificates, and we can offer a choice of energy sources, generation technologies and location options.1
Renewable business gas: Renewable Gas Guarantees of Origin (RGGOs) are sourced from UK-based producers, who recycle gas from biodegradable materials, residues and waste.1 Shell Energy can also work with your business to source and structure the most suitable corporate Power Purchase Agreement (cPPA). A cPPA is a long-term arrangement that enables a business to purchase its electricity from a specific renewable energy source. cPPAs can help to provide price certainty, while also contributing to the development of new renewable assets.

Shell Energy supplies Norsk Hydro’s UK sites with natural gas and asset-specific REGO-certified 100% renewable electricity from the Rhyl Flats wind farm in Wales. This renewable electricity helps to power electric forklifts, automated cooling towers and energy harvesting, which in turn will enable Norsk Hydro to produce lower-carbon aluminium.
Find out more about how Shell Energy is working with Norsk Hydro to help decarbonise its operations, supplying natural gas and renewable electricity to the company’s UK sites.

1Shell Energy’s renewable electricity is supplied by the National Grid and certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates, matching electricity bought with the equivalent amount from 100% renewable sources. Shell Energy’s renewable gas is certified by the Green Gas Certification Scheme (GGCS). Through the use of Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin (RGGO) certificates, a scheme which matches each unit of gas used by a Shell Energy customer with an equivalent amount of biomethane (a gas considered by the GGCS to be green), that has been placed into the grid. For further information on this certification scheme, please see http://www.greengas.org.uk. We are also able to offer non-renewable products on request.
