Frequently asked questions
Fixed energy supply contracts are used by the majority of small to medium business energy users. They involve fixing the commodity (gas or electricity) element of your bill for the duration of the contract at the outset. The non-commodity cost elements can be dealt with in two ways – fixed in an all-inclusive option or paid on a pass-through basis. For the latter, take a look at our pass-through contracts.

Fixed energy contracts suit businesses that are risk averse and want to keep things simple. By fixing both commodity and non-commodity costs customers benefit from a high degree of budget certainty compared to alternative energy contract options.
There will always be some risk associated with securing an energy supply contract. For instance, if the wholesale market price falls, you will not be able to benefit from lower contract rates until you secure your next energy renewal. In exchange for a fixed price, the supplier will take on the risk that prices could go up during the contract period. As a result, a risk premium will be added to your price.
1Shell Energy’s renewable electricity is supplied by the National Grid and certified by Renewable Energy Guarantees of Origin (REGO) certificates, matching electricity bought with the equivalent amount from 100% renewable sources. Shell Energy’s renewable gas is certified by the Green Gas Certification Scheme (GGCS). Through the use of Renewable Gas Guarantee of Origin (RGGO) certificates, a scheme which matches each unit of gas used by a Shell Energy customer with an equivalent amount of biomethane (a gas considered by the GGCS to be green), that has been placed into the grid. For further information on this certification scheme, please see http://www.greengas.org.uk. We are also able to offer non-renewable products on request.
